Three Years of Seti@home

Yesterday marks my 3rd year anniversary of contributing to seti@home, a project that analyzes radio signals to search for signs of extraterrestrial life. From their site you can download and install a client program, boinc, that downloads and analyzes radio data. By running the following command on ubuntu (possibly other distributions) you can install the boinc manager from the repositories.

sudo apt-get install boinc-*

Southern Vales Linux Users Group has a great tutorial that I found on installing boinc on a linux server without a GUI.

My stats for seti@home can be found here.

7 Job Search Suggestions

After 5 long months of job searching I have finally landed a job in my field, Software Development. For the benefit anyone out there still searching for a job, I have compiled a list of suggestions that I did during my time off that may help. Understand that I am no expert, but if any of these suggestions can help please take advantage of them.

Hyndman Tree Farm Website

Over the weekend I created a custom theme for the Hyndman Tree Farm website. I used a similar approach as I did on my site. I used Colour Lovers again to find a pallet that fit the site nicely. Still has some minor issues to work on but, for the most part, I am happy with it.

Hustle For Your Health 5K

This morning my fiancée, Monica, and I ran in our first 5K, St. Louis University's Hustle For Your Health. Since moving to St. Louis in May, we have been trying to live a healthier lifestyle. Along with dieting, we have been exercising 3-5 times a week. Usually we run about 1.5 miles and occasionally 3 miles.

Being a little on the heavier side, I didn't expect anything amazing. My goal was to run the entire 5K without walking. I completed my goal and got a time of 26:23. I can't wait to run another.

Site Redesign

Finally decided to clean up the color scheme and the CSS on my site.  Still isn't completely how I would like, but I'm experimenting.  And at least it looks a whole lot better than it did.  I used to pick out the colors, a great resource for anyone who is horrible at choosing colors like me.
